CSN financial aid: study Spanish in Spain with Swedish student grants

29 October 2025

Are you thinking about studying Spanish in Spain and wondering if you can use your CSN grant?

Thanks to CSN financial aid, Swedish students can study at recognized schools abroad and receive financial support from the Swedish government to make their experience possible.

In this guide, you’ll learn how CSN grants and loans work, who can apply, how to prepare your application, and why Españolé, an officially CSN-approved school, is one of the top choices for Swedish students in Spain.

What is CSN and who can apply?

The CSN (Centrala studiestödsnämnden) is the Swedish Board of Student Finance. It provides grants and loans to help Swedish citizens study both in Sweden and abroad.

If you are a Swedish student and wish to study Spanish in Spain, you can apply for CSN financial support.

Both students under 20 and adult learners can apply for this financial aid to cover tuition fees, accommodation, and living expenses while studying abroad.

How much can you receive from CSN?

The total amount you can receive from CSN depends on several factors such as your age, course length, and study intensity.

Students may be eligible for both grants and loans, which are calculated on a weekly basis. In addition, they can apply for supplementary loans to cover extra expenses such as travel, insurance, or tuition fees.

You can check the latest official rates on the CSN website.

How to apply for CSN funding for studies in Spain

Applying for CSN support is simple when you know the steps. Here’s how to get your grant and loan approved for your Spanish course in Spain:

  1. Choose a CSN-accredited Spanish school. Make sure the school is officially recognized by CSN, as only accredited institutions are eligible for funding.
  2. Book your course and accommodation. You’ll need to provide proof of enrolment, and CSN may also ask for confirmation of your accommodation.
  3. Complete your CSN online application. Go to the CSN website and select “Studying abroad with student finance (Utlandsstudier med studiemedel)” under grants or loans. Then go to “Mina sidor” and log in to your account to see the requirements, enter your information, and download the CSN document for your application. Make sure your course and school details match exactly what appears on your confirmation letter.
  4. Prepare the required documents. Our admissions team will send you all the paperwork ready to attach to your CSN application in the format CSN requires.
  5. Submit and wait for approval. CSN usually processes applications within 3–6 weeks, depending on the time of year. After approval, you’ll receive your grant and loan payments directly from CSN, usually before your course begins.

Why choose a CSN-approved Spanish school

Choosing a CSN-approved Spanish school ensures you are studying at an institution recognised for its academic excellence and compliance with Swedish educational standards.

Here’s why this financial aid is important:

  • Quality guarantee: CSN only accredits schools with verified teaching quality.
  • Financial security: You can study abroad with government-backed funding.
  • Full support: Approved schools like Españolé assist students with paperwork, course validation, and accommodation.
  • International recognition: CSN financial aid enhances your academic profile for future studies or work abroad.

Common questions about CSN financial aid

What does CSN financial aid mean for a language school?

It means the school is approved by CSN Sweden, meeting the standards required for Swedish students to receive financial aid for their studies.

Can I get CSN funding for any Spanish course?

Only if the course is full-time (usually at least 20 hours per week) and provided by a CSN-accredited institution.

How much money can I get from CSN?

How much support you can get from CSN depends on your personal situation: things like your age, how long you’ll study, and whether you’re full or part-time. You can read more about it here.

Do I need to repay the CSN loan?

Yes. The loan portion is repaid gradually, but the grant never has to be returned.

Is Españolé officially CSN approved?

Of course! Españolé is fully approved and our team assists Swedish students with every step of the application, from documents to submission. This year, 67% of our Swedish students have applied for CSN.

Studying at Españolé has been an amazing experience. Thanks to CSN, I could focus fully on improving my Spanish while enjoying life in Valencia. The school’s support with the application and accommodation made everything so easy. – Emma, Sweden

These experiences let Swedish students practise Spanish naturally while exploring Valencia, all included in the CSN-approved programme.
  4. Personal academic and certification guidance. Whether you’re preparing your CSN application, enrolling for a DELE or SIELE exam, or planning further studies in Spain, our admissions and academic teams are here to support you. We help with documentation, course registration, and exam preparation to make your CSN-funded journey smooth and stress-free.
  5. Flexible Spanish. Small classes, individual mentoring, and tailored lessons ensure that CSN students get the personalised support they need.
