Any excuse is perfect to organize a party with family or friends. If you are looking for a different kind of party, we suggest you organize a Spanish themed party.
These kinds of celebrations are a lot of fun because all the guests have a prominent role and they even have to dress up for the occasion.
For the celebration to be perfect, many aspects must be taken into account. All the details have to be related to the party’s theme. We have to recreate an environment and everything has to be in harmony: the decoration, the food, the music, the guest attire, etc.

6 Tips to organize a Spanish theme party
Let’s take a look at the following ideas to organize a Spanish theme party. So don’t think twice and let’s start with the key preparations:
1. The invitations
The invitations are the letter of introduction of the party. Here, you will tell them the place and date of your celebration. It is advisable that you send them well in advance so that your friends have time to prepare their wardrobe and plan their attendance.
Invitations should be related to the theme of the party. Be creative! If you are having a Spanish themed party, the invitation can be based on images of a Spanish monument or city or a work by a famous Spanish artist such as Pablo Picasso or Salvador Dalí.
Nowadays there are free applications to put your creativity into practice and make invitations in digital format that you can send online, without the need to use paper. This is a way to not just upgrade your invitations to make them more fun (maybe you can add gifs, videos or other resources that can’t be found in paper invitations), but also more environmentally sustainable.
2. The food
For an authentic Spanish theme party you should offer tapas which are the classic Spanish appetizers. Among the most popular tapas that cannot be missing in a typical Spanish meal you can put:
- Patatas bravas (fried potatoes in a slightly spicy sauce).
- Calamares a la romana (battered squid)
- Chipirones (fried squid)
- Tortilla de patatas (spanish tortilla)
- Meatballs in sauce
There are also some cold tapas such as Serrano ham (there is nothing more typically Spanish), olives and cheese.

3. Drinks
As for the drinks, we recommend, in addition to some soft drinks, the most consumed drink in Spain, beer, served very cold. You can also offer your guests some sweet white wine or a red rioja, since there are very good wineries here in Spain.
But the drink you will surely succeed with will be sangría. A very typical Spanish drink that is prepared with the following ingredients:
1 liter of young red wine
1 can of soda pop
2 peaches
2 oranges
1 lemon
1 apple
1/2 cinnamon stick
A dash of liqueur
35 g sugar (2 level tablespoons)
3 tablespoons of water
Cut the fruit into small cubes. Put the wine in a jug and add the chopped fruit and the cinnamon. Add the other ingredients, stir well and add ice to drink it cool.
Another typical Spanish and especially Valencian drink is the”Water of Valencia”. A typical drink of the terreta similar to the sangría that is served very fresh.
4. The music
There is no party without music and there is no more characteristic Spanish sound than the flamenco guitar. Delight your guests with this wonderful music. Prepare a selection of music that follows this theme.
5. The decorations
In a Spanish themed party you can’t miss the decoration. All the elements should be related to the theme: colors, furniture, tablecloths, glasses and other elements to create a typical Spanish atmosphere. Red and yellow colors should dominate the decoration (balloons, streamers, ribbons, etc…). It is also essential to place a large flag in a prominent place. Flowers should also predominate in the decoration.
5. The costumes
At a Spanish themed party your guests should dress according to the theme of the party. The most typical for men, a bullfighter costume and for women, the long flamenco dress. An original idea for women is to carry a hand fan, a typical Spanish element.
Another good idea is to build a photocall, which is always a hit, so that guests can take home a souvenir of the party.
But above all… Speak Spanish! Take advantage of this Spanish-themed party to practice your Spanish accent with your guests. From Españolé we hope that your party will be a success and that your friends will be delighted to spend a typical Spanish evening.
