The DELE Spanish diplomas are official qualifications certifying proficiency in the Spanish language and are awarded by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Vocational Training.
The DELE diplomas are valid indefinitely and are internationally recognized among public and private educational institutions and also at a business level. They are an official guarantee of Spanish language proficiency.
The current Spanish legislation that establishes the procedure to obtain Spanish nationality by residence, establishes, among other requirements, that applicants must pass the DELE Spanish exam (level A2 or higher).
Dates of DELE exams in Spain in 2022
Each year there are several calls and places are limited. The next calls in the remainder of 2022 to take the DELE exam in Spanish are as follows:

The DELE Spanish exams are held in the centers of the Instituto Cervantes as well as in its more than 1,000 examination centers in more than 100 countries. Not all centers offer exams at all times, so you should check carefully when you register, the date you want to take the exam and the level at which you wish to sit the exam. In any case, to confirm in which centers you can take the exam, we recommend that you check the website of the Instituto Cervantes.
Registration for the DELE exam
In the case of candidates who wish to take the exam in Spain, registration for the exams is usually done online, after registering on the Instituto Cervantes website, from where you can download the registration form.
In those cases where the DELE exam takes place outside Spain, registration is done at each examination center.
Another frequent question asked by those who want to take the DELE exam is how much it costs to take the exam. The registration fee for the DELE exams depends on the level of Spanish of each diploma and the country where the registration takes place, so you should consult the price in the examination center of the country where you want to take the tests, but to give you an approximate idea, in Europe, for example:
- The price of the DELE A2 is around 130€.
- The price of DELE B2 is around 150€-180€.
- The price of the DELE C1 is around 160€-180€.
The registration deadline is usually one month before the test date and you have 14 days to request a refund from the day you register for the exam.
How to know the DELE exam scores
Candidates will receive their DELE exam results approximately three months after the written tests have been held. The Instituto Cervantes will inform candidates of the publication of their scores via the e-mail address they indicated at the time of registration.
Candidates will have access to their official transcript of marks in their restricted access to the Instituto Cervantes portal.
Candidates who have obtained the overall grade of APTO will receive the corresponding diploma issued by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Vocational Training.
In case of disagreement with the grade obtained, candidates may submit a grade review request using the form found on the Instituto Cervantes exams portal. A process of analysis will then begin, after which the Instituto Cervantes will proceed to communicate to the candidate the final resolution of their case within a maximum period of three months.
